MM Roll Bars

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Roll bars must ship by truck. Approximate range is $65 (CA) or $125-175 (out of CA). Our sales department will contact you regarding total final shipping cost on any order that contains a MM Roll Bar. Contact our sales department directly by phone, or through our contact page if you need to confirm the shipping costs before purchasing a roll bar.

Increase both safety and the rigidity of your Mustang's chassis with a Maximum Motorsports Roll Bar. Intended for the rigors of drag racing, these MM roll bars conform to NMRA and NHRA rules. Designed to fit with the stock Mustang interior, MM roll bars are also suitable for street-driven cars, especially if swing-out door bars are selected.

To keep delivery costs to a minimum, we designed these roll bars to ship with the rear braces detached. This requires a minimal amount of welding during installation to secure the rear braces to the main hoop. For hardtop Mustangs, during installation the rear braces are bolted to the main hoop. This keeps the rear braces precisely aligned to the main hoop, allowing all welding to be done before the roll bar is installed in the car. This means you do not need to remove your car's interior to avoid damaging it while welding.  To conform to the NHRA and NMRA rules, a qualified welder must use either the MIG or TIG welding process to weld the rear braces to the main hoop. We recommend that you get your own copy of the latest NHRA rules by calling them at 626/914-4761.

The convertibles have a slightly different installation procedure. To provide a good structural attachment point for the roll bar's rear braces, we include reinforcement plates for the convertible chassis. These are welded into place behind the rear seat. These reinforcements increase the strength of the convertible chassis at the attachment point of the rear braces. With a convertible, the top can be lowered and stowed during installation, which then provides easy access to protect the interior and complete the required welding.  After all welding is completed, the roll bar still bolts into place, and can be removed from the car as a complete unit.

  • Made of 1-3/4" x 0.134" wall DOM seamless tubing (much stronger than the more commonly used ERW seamed tubing).
  • Our rear braces are straight, with no bends. The NHRA rules prohibit any bends in the tubing of the rear braces.
  • Includes a harness-mount/seat-back brace for shoulder harness attachment and seat back reinforcement.
  • Our harness-mount/seat-back brace is available pre-welded (meets NHRA rules), or as a bolt-in version for easy removal (bolt-in is not NHRA legal).
  • Contour-hugging 6" x 6" mounting pads with backup plates, better than any you've seen, sandwich the unibody for safe and strong mounting.
  • The front seats are accessed using our bolt-in or swing-out door bars. While both bars meet the NHRA rules, the swing-out door bars pivot outward, parallel with the doors, for easy entry. They can also be completely removed from the car in a matter of seconds! The bolt-in door bars are designed for easy initial installation (no welding), but are not intended to be removed.
  • Unlike some roll bars, our rear braces do not extend rearward of the centerline of the rear axle. This design maintains a crush zone at the rear of the car for optimum safety.
  • Unlike most other roll bars for hardtop Mustangs, our rear braces mount to the strong compound curve of the rear inner wheel well, leaving space for the back seat.

We maintain an inventory of all standard MM roll bars. MM roll bars are shipped by truck freight, with shipping charges prepaid. MM roll bars are uncoated, bare steel. For a high quality finish, the installer should paint or powder coat the roll bar after the welding is completed. A convertible's tonneau cover will not fit after a roll bar installation. Will not fit convertibles with light bars.

Chro-Moly Steel

MM does not use Chro-Moly steel tube. Because of the metallurgical properties of Chro-Moly, any welded area will have a higher concentration of stress than the surrounding, non-welded area. This concentration of stress can lead to the failure of the welded joint unless properly relieved with a post-weld stress relieving treatment.

Because the MM roll bar design requires that the two rear braces for the main hoop be welded during installation, if we used Chro-Moly tubing those welded joints would need to be properly stress relieved before final installation of the roll bar. We consider it to be too difficult and cost-prohibitive for our customers to find a properly trained and certified technician to perform the required stress relieving.

Bolt-in vs. Weld-in Installation

The MM Roll Bars for hardtop Mustangs are designed to bolt to the chassis, without welding. With a bolt-in installation, the floorpan is sandwiched between the roll bar mounting pads and the back-up plates underneath the floorpan. There is a significant clamping force between the two pads, which provides a very secure installation.

While they may be welded-in, allowing a reduction in weight over a bolt-in installation because there is no backup pad on the other side, there are serious issues to consider. If the installer is not in the "expert welder" category, he may burn through the sheet metal of the chassis.

The MM Roll Bars for convertible Mustangs require that some welding to the floorpan be done. Someone who is in the "expert welder" category is required for installation of a convertible roll bar

.These are available for 1979-2004 Mustangs and 1983-2004 Convertible Mustangs.  We have 4-Point and 6-Point roll bars with or without swingouts.  These are also available with fixed, removable or without harness mount tube.

Please call for prices and applications.  Prices start at $259.95 for a basic 4-Point and increase to $449.95 for an NHRA/NMRA legal 6-Point with singouts and removable harness mount.
